Podcast News

Our first 11 episodes are now live (with our 12th going live 20th March) – and we’d love you all to experience them.

Creating these podcasts is a fantastic thing to be able to do, as it forms a major part of the “Give” element of Learn Live Give; It’s our opportunity to share with our audience the experience and knowledge we have gained from years of yoga study and from reading a significant number of books on yoga philosophy, principles and practice. And above all else, we genuinely enjoy doing it!

We truly believe there is something for everyone in these podcasts, and we try very hard to make them informative and fun. If you haven’t already listened to any, please take a look at the subjects below and try one out. If you’re already hooked – please recommend them to others. We would really appreciate it, as currently we are relying solely on ‘word of mouth’ for our promotion. Here’s the list of podcast topics so far:

001 Intro to the Yoga Matters Podcast – a general introduction to the podcast series and what we hope it will achieve

002 Intro to the 8 Limbs of Yoga – an introduction to the overall construct of yoga practice and principles

003 The Meaning of Namaste, Yogi, Bogi... – discussion around the deeper meanings of Sanskrit words you may (or may not) have come across.

004 The 5 Koshas – here we describe and discuss the 5 energy layers of being human. Also known as the 5 veils or sheaths, these are the physical, energetic, mental, intellectual and blissful aspects of human existence.

005 Different Types of Yoga – a discussion about the many types of yoga out there and the benefits and challenges of each.

006 The Pros and Cons of Yoga Retreats – where we chat through the benefits, drawbacks and costs of yoga retreats from our experience of both running and attending such events.

007 The 5 Kleshas – an overview of the 5 mental states or causes of suffering that cloud our judgement and distort our view of reality: Ignorance, Ego, Attachment, Aversion and Fear of Death or Endings.

008 The Serene Lake Analogy – here we take you through a fantastic mental image or tool that can help you better understand and implement many other elements of yoga philosophy.

009 The Meaning of Guru – sounds simple, but there is a lot more to such a term than you might realise.

010 The 7 Chakras – we discuss the 7 energy centres which are believed to be focal points of life force or energy in various spiritual practices, particularly in Hinduism and yoga, but can also be seen as a great way of discussing and simplifying psychology in a logical way.

011 Yoga is for Men Too! – a subject we are both passionate about (particularly Andy) – as men can genuinely benefit from yoga so much and yet are the hardest audience to engage!

PLUS: Latest release:

012 Yoga and Eating Disorder Recovery – a passionate subject for Emma, as yoga aided her personal recovery from anorexia nervosa.

Listen to our episodes here: https://learnlivegive.co.uk/podcasts.html. And please help us to share yoga knowledge as it can help so many people - We appreciate your help and support.

What’s in a Half-Day Mini-Retreat?

Our half-day mini retreats are designed to take attendees through a sequence of different yoga styles to provide a mind and body experience that is suitable for novices and experienced yogis alike:

10:00 – Introduction – The day starts with a brief overview of the theme, often linked to yoga philosophy and self-development principles.

10:15 – Somatic Movement and Slow Flow Hatha Yoga – Gentle movement that enhances mind-body connection, followed by slow-flow hatha yoga to exercise the body, whilst also enhancing balance and coordination.

11:30 – Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga - Yin yoga helps to nourish and relax the body’s connective tissues, customisable to the needs of each individual, followed by restorative yoga, designed to relax the nervous system.

12:00 – Guided Meditation / Yoga Nidra - A guided meditation or yoga nidra practice will then encourage a deep sense of calm and contentment.

12:30 – Unravel / Discuss – A relaxing time for social connection, processing and debriefing, accompanied by herbal teas and some homemade healthy sweet treats.

Half-day mini-retreats provide a great opportunity to delve deeper into multiple aspects of yoga.

Our next half-day mini-retreat will be held on Thursday 27th (Our half day retreat on Saturday 29th March is already fully booked), from 10am until 1pm, both at the Yoga Barn in Lincolnshire. More details can be found here: https://learnlivegive.co.uk/yoga-events.html

Upcoming Weekend Retreats:

As you may already know, our first weekend retreat of 2025 is already fully booked, so the next available weekend retreat this year is our luxury yoga weekend at a beautiful country house in Norfolk: Friday 5th to Sunday 8th June. We are so excited! As with the sold-out retreat, the theme is based on the principle of learning how to root yourself and feel grounded in order to then be able to enhance and grow your well-being to become your best self, all delivered through a mix of yoga styles. Only a few rooms left!

Volunteering at Worthy Causes:

A small task force of friends and yoga students committed to volunteering at the Exotic Pet Refuge for 2 weekends in March, in an attempt to make a number of improvements in preparation for the site’s first 2025 open day on Sunday 20th of April, 10am-4pm. Improvements in animal shelters, small construction projects, and painting enclosures are the key focus projects. If you can make it to the Deeping area on the 20th April, we’d love to see you at the Refuge; These open days form a huge part of the charity’s funding for the year and so are essential to the its survival. By attending, you will be financially supporting a very worthy cause, and giving yourself a great day out in the process.

And Finally:

Inspirational quote on persistence:

"… Continue to be who you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness. The effect you have on others’ lives is the highest expression of your own."

- Maya Angelou, Author and poet

If there is anything you have learned and ‘lived’ that has benefitted you, no matter how big or small, maybe someone you know could benefit from having you share your experience. We can all make a positive difference in this world.

Please pass on our details to anyone interested in the learn live give project – thank you so much!

We hope to see you at one of our events or retreats in the near future.

Best Wishes

Emma and Andy
